Our Guiding Principles
How we protect your data and maintain a respectful environment
Lawfulness, Fairness & Transparency
We process personal data lawfully, fairly, and in a transparent manner. You will always know what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used, in line with Section 25 of the Data Protection Act.
Purpose Limitation
Data is collected for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes related to community engagement and cultural storytelling. It will not be used for incompatible purposes without your consent.
Data Minimization
We only collect data that is necessary and relevant for the intended purpose. We do not ask for excessive personal information, ensuring your digital footprint remains minimal and secure.
Accuracy & Accountability
We strive to keep your data accurate and up-to-date. You have the right to request correction or deletion of your personal information. We are accountable for all data processing activities.
Storage Limitation
Your data is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, after which it is securely anonymized or deleted.
Integrity & Confidentiality
We implement robust security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or damage. Our community spaces are moderated to ensure confidentiality and respect for all members.
Respectful Conduct
Harassment, hate speech, and incitement to violence are strictly prohibited. We celebrate diversity; divisive tribal or discriminatory comments will result in immediate action.
Protection of Minors
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. All content is moderated to ensure a safe environment for young participants.
Your Data Rights (Under the Data Protection Act, 2019)
Right to Access
You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time.
Right to Rectification
If your data is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to have it corrected.
Right to Erasure
Request the deletion of your personal data when it is no longer necessary or if consent is withdrawn.
Right to Data Portability
Receive your data in a structured, commonly used format and transmit it to another controller.
How to Exercise Your Rights
- Email our Data Protection Officer at dpo@voices254.co.ke with your request.
- Call our support line: +254 700 123 456 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).
- We will respond to all requests within 30 days as mandated by law.
- If unsatisfied, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).
Standards for a United Kenya
Our platform thrives on respectful dialogue. We do not tolerate hate speech, cyberbullying, or any form of harassment, especially that which targets ethnicity, religion, gender, or political affiliation. Any violation of these guidelines, including misuse of personal data, will result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent account deletion.
We are committed to transparency. You will be notified of any moderation actions taken against your content, and you have the right to appeal such decisions by contacting our community support team.
